The DBU celebrated the career of Rikke Sevecke at Parken, bringing a close to a successful career which saw the 29-year-old defender earn 54 caps for Denmark.

The native of Nyköbing Falster rose through the ranks to represent her country at both the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 and the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. At the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, she played in all of Denmark's four matches as the Danes advanced to the Round of 16, losing to the hosts in front of 75,784 fans.

At club level, Rikke came through the ranks at Brøndby, helping the club reach the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals. She later captained France’s FC Fleury, before moving to Everton in the Women's Super League and finally moving to the NWSL to join the iconic Portland Thorns.

Unfortunately, Rikke’s playing career was cut short after she was diagnosed with a heart condition, ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy), which made continued professional football dangerous. Since then, she has used her experience and platform to support both the Danish Heart Association (Hjerteforeningen) and the British Heart Foundation to raise awareness, increase uptake of CPR training and advocate for better screening in elite sport.

After stopping away from the pitch, Rikke has returned to the sport in a number of ways: she’s joined Disney+ to support their first season of UWCL coverage and has also embarked on her coaching journey, securing promotion to the B-Liga with FC København in 2024/25. After giving birth to her first child, Rikke has since joined league-leaders HB Køge as Assistant Coach, working with both the First team and Academy.

Congratulations on a playing career that took you to the top of the game, Rikke! And we’re excited to watch your progress as a coach in the years to come.
