Nils Nielsen named Technical Director of Como 1907 Women
The former Japan WNT head coach has been appointed to lead the technical project for the ambitious Serie A newcomers
Como 1907 have named Nils Nielsen as their new Technical Director, tasking the experienced Dane with leading the direction of the Club’s technical structure in their debut Serie A season.
Nielsen joins after a successful period with Japan’s women’s national team, which included winning the 2026 AFC Asian Cup and the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.
Prior to this, the former Euro 2017 silver medallist had led the Danish and Swiss women's national teams, before joining Man City as the Club’s Director of Women's Football, overseeing a transitional period which saw a refresh of the player group and set up the foundation which would eventually see the Club crowned Champions.
He joins an exciting leadership structure at the Club, led by decorated former USWNT international, Heather O’Reilly, who achieved World Cup and Olympics titles in her career. Nils will support the Club's technical staff, led by Head coach Selena MaZZZZZZ, and take a lead on player recruitment for their inaugural Serie A season.
Speaking about what drew the experienced coach to a growing project, Nielsen shared:
"This Club is rather young but the project is very well underway and everyone is so excited about it. This team comes from a big success, a historic promotion to Serie A. It's very exciting to be here, this is a fantastic project, I will do everything I can to try and ensure we follow the past that has been laid out. Nothing comes without hard work and dedication, we will do everything we can".
Nielsen will now prepare Como 1907 for their first top‑flight campaign, searching more history for the Club, after the men qualified for the Champions League this season, in just their second season in the top flight.
Bienvenuto, Nils.
