Amalie Vangsgaard transfers to Aston Villa
Aston Villa have today completed the transfer of the Danish national team striker from Juventus, on a three-year contract.
Vangsgaard joins the Villans after successful spells abroad at Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Linkoping FC. At Juventus, Amalie secured all four domestic trophies - the 2024/25 Serie A, 2025 Coppa Italia, 2025 Supercoppa and the inaugural 2025/26 Serie A Women’s Cup, scoring in the latter two finals - and reached the league stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. At PSG, the team won the French Cup and reached the semi-final of the UWCL. This came after her breakthrough at Swedish side Linköping, where the Danish attacker became the Damallsvenskan's top scorer in 2022, with 22 goals.
The Aalborg native has also forged a place for herself in the Danish national team, with 14 goals in 47 matches. Most recently, Amalie scored a double for Denmark in their final World Cup qualifier against Serbia, securing a place at the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
At Villa, the Danish forward joins a Club with some of the WSL’s best facilities, including a women’s training centre opened in 2024 and the historic Villa Park as their home pitch. She will also be reunited with Brian Sørensen, the Club’s Technical advisor and her former coach at both Fortuna Hjørring and FC Nordsjælland. During their most recent time together, Vangsgaard helped Nordsjælland win their first major trophy, the 2020 Danish Women's Cup, while also leading the team to third place in their first season in the top flight.
On joining the Club, Amalie shared:
“It's very motivating to hear about Aston Villa's plans with the players and staff and I'm looking forward to it. I see that the club is really valuing the women's team - the facilities are really good and I can't wait to get started here in preseason”
Marisa Ewers, Director of Women’s Football added:
“She’s a player with proven quality and experience at the highest level. We’re delighted to bring her to Aston Villa”
Congratulations, Amalie! We’re looking forward to watching you express yourself in the WSL next season!
