Diego Restrepo named Head of Goalkeeping

Manchester City have today agreed the extension of Diego Restrepo into the expanded role of Head of Goalkeeping.

Diego’s promotion from Goalkeeping Coach comes on the back of Manchester City winning the 2025/26 WSL title. His goalkeeping unit was a key contributor to the success, preventing the highest number or goals above expected (3.7) in the WSL.

This season, the former US U20 MNT goalkeeper has also inherited responsibility for Manchester City's set piece strategy, with strong results: Manchester City led the WSL in set piece goals scored (17, accounting for 27% of goals scored), while also conceding the fewest (1).

Similarly, his goalkeeping unit has also been shining at international level in the past 12 months, with Ayaka Yamashita leading Japan to the 2026 AFC Asian Cup and Khiara Keating being part of England’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 win.

Reflecting on staying at the Club, and his evolving role, Diego shared:

“Extremely grateful and honoured for the opportunity to become Head of Goalkeeping at Manchester City Women. To see the club continue pushing boundaries and striving to be world leaders by investing in important specialist positions says everything about the ambition and vision of this environment.

Moving from First Team Goalkeeper Coach into this role to help connect and structure both the academy and first team pathway, while supporting the future development of our goalkeepers, is an immense honour. Excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the trust placed in me.”

Congratulations, Diego!
